Old Man Doom Excellent Stoner Doom out of the Doomiest fucking place I ever was a guest of: Ohio. Fueled by the ambience of Ohio these guys have surely took that and put it into musical form for our listening indulgences. One must not even travel to Ohio to understand this place. Just buy this and listen. I mean really listen. Don't fucking play games or with yourself. Just listen with the lava lamp and blacklight. Drink some bourbon to make it more enjoyable and experience what these guys have to deal with. Favorite track: Time heals no wounds.

about

Traitors Return To Earth play Down-Tempo Psych based Sludge/Doom/Stoner Metal Music. Taking influence from Sludge/Stoner Metal Bands past and present such as Sabbath, Ramesses, Electric Wizard, YOB, EyeHateGod but bringing their own great take on the genre.

“Smoke Screen” is 5 tracks long and is on for a head-crushing 32 mins or so.

The songs are loud, angry and played to a slow sludge based mid-tempo to superb effect.

If you are into the above bands then get downloading this beast of an album now. As it is epic in tone and nature. The album cover is a throwback to album covers of great Stoner/Sludge/Doom Metal bands from the 70’s. And the guys do really carry that 70’s psych Doom/Stoner Metal vibe on certain parts of the album. This really adds to the album’s atmosphere.

This album is simply superb from start to finish. If you are into down-tempo Sludge/Stoner Metal then you will find much to enjoy and discover here time and time again. As I have since I downloaded this brilliant album earlier this week.

Production is superb. Everything is loud and clear from start to finish. There are no flashy progressive Sludge metal riffs here. Just good old-fashioned Stoner/Doom/Sludge Metal riffs that we all know and love.

Check out tracks “”Black Mercy” and “Time Heals No Wounds”. Epic tracks from a great band with a bright future.

Highly recommended.

- Steve The Sludgelord -

These 5 songs churn along in a very angry fashion with some great tempo changes from the slow and plodding to groovy mid-tempos that get your head moving. Something about these songs seems more epic than what their running times suggest not that the songs are that short, they just seem bigger and more adventurous than what they actually are. This is of course a huge bonus as these are five tracks are tunes you can get something different from on each and every listen. There is very much a retro-feel to a lot of the music, very sabbathian in many respects but at the same time, they sound modern and in-tune with the sludge and doom that is being released now. Chris Sherrod is a great vocalist that is perfect for the kind of psyche meets modern doom-sludge they present. They also have a wicked riff-merchant in guitarist Kevin Masters who obviously knows his way around a monster riff.

Now this is a band to watch out for in the future.......8.5/10

-DOOMMANTIA -

Five epic mid-tempo sludge/stoner dynamites which is enough to blow your head off but not enough to satisfy my appetite for down-tempo heavy riffage (its duration is just 31min). Nothing innovative for these guys from Columbus, Ohio, just some good old stoner/sludge played from the depths of their swampish hearts. Loud and heavy as I like it. After the release of the EP, band's bassist departed from the band but I want to believe that the 3 remaining mates will continue what they started 'cause a brilliant start like this one must be continued. Cheers!
